October 2014 Pretty Palettes

The immensely talented Erin Prais-Hintz of Tesori Trovati Jewelry invited me to join her in Halcraft's
Pretty Palettes Challenge for the month of October. Erin creates really stunning and innovative jewelry, as most of you are probably familiar with, and I was honored to be part of this challenge with her!

Erin was inspired by the work of a painter named Erin Fitzhugh Gregory and chose one of her paintings for October's palette. I can see why Erin was so drawn to this artist's work; the bold colors and style are captivating!

She then went to Michael's and selected an assortment of beads from Halcraft's
Bead Gallery line for this color palette. Each of us is required to design a piece of
jewelry using these beads.

I love the assortment of contemporary shapes!

I noticed that there is some gray in the vase, so I incorporated gray into the color palette. I used gunmetal and dark annealed steel along with the navy blue sandstone beads as the basis for each design. With a bold color palette and contemporary shaped beads, I was inspired to create modern pieces that reflect my style and pay homage to this stunning color palette.

These are the designs I created....

"Modern Bouquet"

 "Meditearranean Sea"

  "Dance by the Moonlight"

 "Modern Geometry"

This bracelet was made with circle links that I created with dark annealed steel wire on
Brenda Schweder's brilliant invention Now That's A Jig.

October 2014 Pretty Palettes Collection.

I'd like to thank Erin Praise-Hintz for inviting me to join her this month for the Pretty Palettes Challenge.
I thoroughly enjoyed this venture, not only because it was fun but more importantly because it
helped me think outside the box and stretch my creative boundaries.

I'll have to admit, initially I was stumped by this color palette. While the inspiration painting and it's colors are exciting and bold, it was a challenge to unite the different hues. I started out by creating different shapes on Now That's a Jig. From there, my inspiration and creativity took off along a colorful contemporary path!

To see the stunning designs that Erin created follow this link.
They are really beautiful and as expected, innovative!

  1. Gorgeous! I feel like I just walked through an art gallery ... beautiful, minimalist design

  2. All beautiful pieces Kathleen, I especially like your bracelet. I see your challenge with this color palette, you did very well with it. Looks like you are enjoying your "jig" using your creative talent to produce unique designs. Well done!

  3. Holy Moly, Miss Kathleen! You ROCK! These designs are fresh and certainly innovative! I am humbled by the way you see me, and truth be told, I feel the same about you. I am so happy that you decided to play along with me and even more so that this allowed you to really get outside the box in your thinking. The first necklace is by far my favorite. I love the way these pieces feel architectural but yet flowing, very light an airy and minimalistic. I see that we thought the same way with the gunmetal (great minds think alike!) and even more excited to see how you approached using the Now That's a Jig tool (which is quickly becoming one of my favorites for exploration and play!). Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful wearable art with us. I agree, it looks like an art gallery up in here! Enjoy the day! Erin

  4. all gorgeous!!! And so creative! Love the wire work you did!

  5. So modern and fun! I love how you showed the pieces together as a collection in the last photo. You have such a strong sense of design and that photo really shows it off!

  6. Great designs, beautiful modern pieces. I love the look of the dark annealed steel, I have some but have yet to work with it.

  7. Kathleen, I LOVE these pieces you've made. Each and every bead feels like a tiny luxury and shines. You've given them each a voice. I can't wait to read more of your blog now that I've found it through Pretty Palettes! Thank you for participating. Your modern take is like a breath of fresh air!

  8. Wow! I'm totally blown away.
Gorgeous work. Can't wait to see more in future challenges.

  9. I really like the simplistic modern look. "Architecture" is my favorite of these pieces. I also like the dark steel. I've been experimenting with some regular steel wire and you have inspired me to take it darker.

  10. Wow! What a beautiful collection! I really like how structural your designs are and how they really like the chain and the beads speak.
